What Is APON?

Toward a Future Connected by Skills:
The Learning Ecosystem Built by APON

APON (Asia Pacific OpenBadge Network) is a general incorporated association established to promote the adoption of Open Badges in the Asia-Pacific region and to enhance their trust and recognition.

In recent years, the global adoption of "Open Badges" — digital credentials based on international standards — has been accelerating to visualize and verify learning outcomes such as skills, qualifications, exams, and degrees.

Particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, including countries like Japan and South Korea, Open Badges are gaining attention for their effectiveness in education, human resource development, and career building, with actual implementations steadily expanding.

In response to this trend, APON is working with partners from various sectors—educational institutions, businesses, government agencies, and certification bodies— to establish the social value of badges through collaborative initiatives.

A society where learning and skills transcend national, regional, institutional, and systemic boundaries to unlock new possibilities—

APON is moving forward to co-create a “learning ecosystem” that begins in Asia and connects the world.
